The scents and effects of white sage 

White prairie sage (Artemisia ludoviciana) is both antimicrobial and antibacterial. White sage (Salvia apiana) is also antimicrobial. And both have been shown to repel insects. Beliefs that burning sage clears out spiritualimpurities, pathogens, and even insects have been fundamental to the practice of smudging.

Did you know that Indians united the four elements for their smudge rituals? Hereby the herbs represent the element earth, the combustion for fire, the smoke for air and a shell for water.

White Sage produces negative ions which give you the feeling of a cleansed room. Both White Sage  will cleanse your home and mind (it is always best to make sure you have good ventilation when smudging), this allows the bad energy to leave.
